Importance of organism and transcriptomesLotharella oceanica is a chlorarachniophyte, a group of algae that acquired plastids by engulfing a green algal endosymbiont. Together with the cryptomonads, chlorarachniophytes are unusual in that they retain a residual endosymbiont nucleus called a nucleomorph. Transcriptomic analyses in both cryptomonads and chlorarachniophytes will give us insights into the process of endosymbiotic gene transfer and the evolution of organelles.
