Importance of organism and transcriptomesThe thraustochytrid known as QPX (Quahog Parasite Unknown) has caused significant disease and mortality in aquacultured and wild populations of the hard clam Mercenaria mercenaria along the east coast of North America since the 1950?s. Available knowledge on QPX is extremely limited. Generated new sequence data will allow the identification of factors involved in QPX virulence and pathogenicity offering a better understanding of conditions affecting the occurrence of disease outbreaks.
