Importance of organism and transcriptomes | The proposed Goniomonas strain was isolated from a sandy beach in Prince Edward Island, Canada in July 2010. 18S rRNA gene phylogenies suggest that it is sister to other marine Goniomonas species and represents a novel Goniomonas lineage. This new strain, which is derived from a single cell isolate and reproduces by vegetative cell division, has the shortest 18S rDNA branch relative to all other known Goniomonas species and grows extremely well under laboratory conditions. It is thus highly suitable for genomic, cellular, and physiological studies in the future. |
