Importance of organism and transcriptomesSymbiobiodinium spp. are essential endosymbionts of reef building coral. Current widespread coral bleaching is due to expelleing of this endosymbiont as a consequence of environmental stress. S. kawagutii was originated from coral reef near Hawaii, and has not been systematically studied with respect to gene expression. RNA samples prepared from cultures grown under stress and various normal conditions as planned will lead to a transcriptome dataset valuable for understanding how environmental stress leads to expelling of this alga from the corals.
