Importance of organism and transcriptomes | Chaetoceros sp. GSL56 was isolated from Farmington Bay in the Great Salt Lake (GSL), Utah, USA in June 2008. This strain of Chaetoceros has unique physiological adaptations, such as a distinctive fatty acid profile, that enable it to flourish in the hyper-saline environment often found within the GSL. Moreover, as Chaetoceros is one of the largest genuses of marine planktonic diatoms and contributes to primary productivity and carbon cycling in marine environments, we propose to investigate GSL56 using transcriptomics. |
