Importance of organism and transcriptomes | This heterotroph is a congener of Mesodinium rubrum, a ubiquitous and ecologically significant mixotroph. Transcriptome differences between M. pulex and M. rubrum may reveal key genes in the evolution of acquired phototrophy, an important mixotrophic nutritional mode in the sea. |
