Importance of organism and transcriptomesThe proposed strain of Thalassiosira antarctica is from the Southern Ocean and obligate psychrophilic. The close relative T. pseudonana from temperate waters has been sequenced and transcriptome information for this species is also available. Thus, the transcriptome sequence of T. antarctica would enable us to identify evolutionary adaptations in the genus Thalassiosira to polar conditions of the Southern Ocean
