Importance of organism and transcriptomesCCMP421 is a putatively free-living marine dinoflagellate belonging to the genus Symbiodinium. The genus Symbiodinium consists almost exclusively of symbiosis-forming species, thus the potentially free-living nature of this strain provides a scientifically interesting study organism. As part of our ongoing research into latent viruses in Symbiodinium, we would like to sequence transcriptomes from plus and minus UV treated cultures of this strain (preliminary flow cytometry evidence from our lab suggests this strain harbors a latent virus infection which can be induced by exposure to UV radiation).
